Portland State University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Portland, Oregon. It is a part of the Oregon University System. The university was founded in 1946 as the Vanport Extension Center. It became a degree-granting college in 1955. The university adopted its present name in 1969.
The university also offers programs at other Oregon locations, including Beaverton, Salem, and Bend. It confers more master’s degrees than any other institution in the Oregon University System. Portland State University athletic teams are called the Vikings.
