Angas, George Fife (1789-1879), was a philanthropist and one of the founders of South Australia. He was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, on May 1, 1789. He formed the South Australian Banking Company in 1841 and moved to South Australia in 1851. He took an active part in the public affairs of the colony, sitting on the Legislative Council until 1866. He died in Angaston, South Australia, on May 15, 1879.
