Campese, David (1962-…), was an Australian Rugby Union player. His 64 international tries was a record until it was broken by Daisuke Ohata of Japan in 2006. Campese was capped (played for his country) a record 101 times. An exceptionally fast, elusive winger, his ability to run the ball from deep inside his own half helped make him the star of Australia’s 1991 World Cup-winning team. He was named the player of the tournament. Campese retired from international rugby in 1996.
David Ian Campese was born on Oct. 21, 1962, in Queanbeyan, New South Wales. He first played for Australia in 1982 and played club rugby for Randwick, in Sydney, and Mediolanum, in Milan, Italy.
