Commonwealth Day is celebrated in the United Kingdom on the second Monday in March. Similar celebrations are held in other Commonwealth countries at various times of the year. Commonwealth Day, originally called Empire Day, was first celebrated in 1902, on May 24, Queen Victoria’s birthday. The present date was fixed in 1977.
