Cunjevoi

Cunjevoi is a kind of sea squirt found along the rocky coasts of the Australian states of New South Wales and Western Australia. The name is Aboriginal.

Cunjevois live between low- and high-tide marks. When they are uncovered at low spring tides, they close their two openings and retain a quantity of water inside their bodies. The water enables the cunjevoi to stay alive during the heat of the day.

The cunjevoi has a tough, purple outer tunic and is soft and reddish inside. Cunjevois are often used as bait. See also Sea squirt.
