Fly River is the largest river in Papua New Guinea. The river rises in the Hindenburg Range and flows more than 680 miles (1,100 kilometers) to the southwestern part of the Gulf of Papua in the Coral Sea, part of the Pacific Ocean. At its estuary (mouth), the river widens to 33 miles (53 kilometers). Small vessels can travel up the river for more than two-thirds of its length.
