Jacklin, Tony

Jacklin, Tony (1944-…), was an outstanding British professional golfer. Jacklin became a national celebrity in the United Kingdom by winning the British Open Golf Championship in 1969 and the United States Open in 1970. He also won Open championships in Italy (1973) and West Germany (now Germany) (1979). Jacklin was a Ryder Cup player from 1967 to 1980 and was team captain from 1983 until 1989. Under his leadership, the British team won the cup in 1985 and 1987.

Jacklin was born on July 7, 1944, in Scunthorpe, England. He joined his local golf club as a trainee professional when he was 16.
