Joyce, Eileen (1908-1991), was an Australian classical pianist of outstanding technical brilliance. She also earned a reputation as an accomplished performer on the harpsichord. Joyce won praise for her interpretations of the music of Russian composers Dimitri Shostakovich and Sergei Prokofiev and the English composer John Ireland.
Joyce was born on Jan. 1, 1908, in Zeehan, Tasmania. She studied music in Leipzig, Germany, and in London, where she settled in 1930. Joyce retired from solo performance in 1960. She died on March 25, 1991.
