Lower Hutt (pop. 104,532) is a city in New Zealand. It is 9 miles (15 kilometers) north of Wellington in the lower North Island. It stands on the Hutt River, near the northern shore of Wellington Harbour and covers about 35 square miles (90 square kilometers). Lower Hutt has a pleasant climate and is known as both the Science City and the Garden City.
