Mount Augustus rises near the Lyons River northeast of Carnarvon in Western Australia. It is the largest exposed rocky outcrop in the world. It measures 1,237 feet (377 meters) high, 5 miles (8 kilometers) long, and 2 miles (3 kilometers) across. It is twice the size of Uluru (also known as Ayers Rock). Mount Augustus is 3,629 feet (1,106 meters) above sea level. Geologists believe that it resulted from earthquake action in the past.
