Shrewsbury School

Shrewsbury School, founded by King Edward VI in 1552, is a famous school for boys in England. It is located outside the town of Shrewsbury, in Shropshire. After a period of decline in the 1700’s, two great headmasters restored the school’s reputation. Samuel Butler, who served from 1798 to 1836, raised the standards of scholarship. Benjamin Kennedy, headmaster from 1836 to 1866, added modern studies and encouraged interest in music and sports.
