Taylor, Sir Geoffrey (1886-1975), an English physicist, specialized in the study of fluids and solids. He served as a meteorologist (scientist who studies the weather) on an expedition in the North Atlantic Ocean in 1913. During World War I (1914-1918), he worked on both meteorology and aeronautics. During World War II (1939-1945), Taylor worked on the atomic bomb project. He studied the spreading of waves created by explosions in the air and under water. Taylor was born in London on March 7, 1886. He studied at Cambridge University and later became a lecturer there. Taylor was knighted in 1944. He died in Cambridge on June 27, 1975.
