British West Indies

British West Indies is a group of islands in the Caribbean Sea. It includes several overseas territories of the United Kingdom. These territories are Anguilla, the British Virgin Islands, the Cayman Islands, Montserrat, and the Turks and Caicos Islands. Together, the islands have an area of about 600 square miles (1,556 square kilometers) and a population of about 171,000.

Many other islands and territories in the Caribbean area were at one time members of the British West Indies, but they are now independent countries. These countries are Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago.
