Baldwin Wallace University

Baldwin Wallace University is a private, coeducational, independent institution of higher learning in Berea, Ohio, near Cleveland. It is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It was founded as Baldwin Institute in 1845 and changed its name to Baldwin University in 1855. In 1863, the university’s German department became a separate institution, German Wallace College. In 1913, Baldwin and German Wallace merged and became Baldwin-Wallace College. In 2012, Baldwin-Wallace College officially became Baldwin Wallace University. The university’s Riemenschneider Bach Institute includes a rare collection of original musical manuscripts, some written by Johann Sebastian Bach. Baldwin Wallace’s athletic teams are called the Yellow Jackets.
