Campbell University is a private institution of higher learning in Buies Creek, North Carolina. It is affiliated with the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. James Archibald Campbell, a Baptist minister, established the institution in 1887 as Buies Creek Academy. In 1925, it was renamed Campbell Junior College in honor of its founder. The junior college became a four-year institution called Campbell College in 1963. In 1979, the college was renamed Campbell University. Campbell also offers evening undergraduate programs to serve military personnel. The university’s athletic teams are called the Fighting Camels.
