Delta State University

Delta State University is a public, state-supported institution of higher learning in Cleveland, Mississippi. The state of Mississippi established it in 1924 as Delta State Teachers College. Over the years, the college’s programs broadened to include nonteaching degrees, and in 1955 its name was changed to Delta State College. The college established its School of Arts and Sciences and School of Business in 1969, and its School of Education and School of Graduate Studies (now the School of Graduate Studies and Continuing Education) in 1970. In 1974, the institution was officially designated Delta State University. The university added its School of Nursing in 1978. The university’s men’s athletic teams are called the Statesmen.
