Fontbonne University

Fontbonne University is a private institution of higher learning in St. Louis, Missouri. The Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, a Roman Catholic religious order of women, founded it in 1923 as a liberal arts college for women. The college was named for the founder of the Sisters of St. Joseph, Mother Saint John Fontbonne. The college began to admit men in 1971. It became Fontbonne University in 2002. In addition to its main campus, the school offers classes for adult learners at several other locations in the St. Louis area. Fontbonne’s athletic teams are called the Griffins.
