Francis Marion University

Francis Marion University is a public, state-assisted, coeducational institution of higher learning in Florence, South Carolina. It was established in 1970 as Francis Marion College and became Francis Marion University in 1992. The institution is named for General Francis Marion, a South Carolina hero of the American Revolution (1775-1783). The university’s athletic teams are called the Patriots.
