Charles Sturt University

Charles Sturt University (CSU) is a government-funded institution of higher education in New South Wales, Australia. It was established in 1989 through the merger of Mitchell College of Advanced Education and the Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education. Mitchell College of Advanced Education and the Riverina-Murray Institute of Higher Education, in turn, were founded on other educational institutions dating back to the late 1890’s. The university was named after the explorer and soldier Charles Sturt (see Sturt, Charles), who arrived in New South Wales in 1827.

The university’s main campuses are in Albury, Bathurst, Dubbo, Orange, and Wagga Wagga, though other university institutions are elsewhere. Many of the students study by distance education. Distance education involves the use of satellites, cable television, the Internet, and other technologies to transmit lectures and educational materials to many locations.
