Macquarie University

Macquarie University is an institution of higher education in New South Wales, Australia. It was founded in 1964. The university was named after Lachlan Macquarie, an early governor of the New South Wales colony.

Macquarie University offers both education and vocational training, and it encourages its students to be diverse in their choice of subjects. The university offers degrees jointly with other institutions in a number of subjects, including theology and tourism. Distance education courses are organized through the Centre for Open Education. Distance education involves the use of satellites, cable television, the Internet, and other technologies to transmit lectures and educational materials to many locations. The student exchange program fosters links with universities around the world and allows students to spend up to two semesters at a foreign university.
