Seattle Mariners are a professional baseball team that plays in the American League (AL) West division of Major League Baseball (MLB). The Mariners play their home games at T-Mobile Park in Seattle, Washington.
The Mariners joined the American League as an expansion team in 1977. They were the second MLB team to play in Seattle. The Seattle Pilots played a single season in 1969 before moving to Milwaukee as the Brewers. The Mariners’ first home ballpark was the Kingdome. The team moved to Safeco Field (now T-Mobile Park) during the 1999 season.
After many years without success, the Mariners won their first AL West title in 1995. In 2001, the Mariners tied an MLB record by winning 116 regular season games, but lost in the playoffs. Star Mariners players have included outfielders Ken Griffey, Jr., and Ichiro Suzuki, shortstop Alex Rodriguez, designated hitter Edgar Martinez, and pitchers Felix Hernandez and Randy Johnson.
