Forster, Lord (1866-1936), Henry William Forster, First Baron Forster of Lepe, was a British politician who served from 1920 to 1925 as governor general of Australia.
Henry William Forster was born on Jan. 21, 1866, in the county of Kent, England, and educated at Eton College and Oxford University. In 1892, he won election as a Conservative member of Parliament for Sevenoaks, Kent. From 1902 to 1905, he held a junior Treasury post in the government of Prime Minister Arthur Balfour. He later became a Conservative Party whip (parliamentary party manager). Forster became a privy counsellor in 1917 and was created Baron Forster of Lepe in 1919. King George V made him Knight Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George in the following year. Lord Forster died in England on Jan. 15, 1936.
