Dallas began playing in the National Football League in 1960 as an expansion team. Tom Landry , one of the greatest coaches in NFL history, coached the Cowboys from 1960 to 1988. However, the team did not have a winning season until 1966, when it won the conference championship. The Cowboys then became an NFL power, achieving 20 consecutive winning seasons from 1966 to 1985. During that time, the Cowboys won Super Bowl VI (played in 1972) and Super Bowl XII (played in 1978). The Cowboys later won Super Bowl XXVII (played in 1993), Super Bowl XXVIII (played in 1994), and Super Bowl XXX (played in 1996).
