Philadelphia Eagles are a professional football team that plays in the National Football League (NFL). The team competes in the East Division of the National Football Conference. The Eagles play their home games at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Eagles joined the National Football League in 1933, but the team had little success until the 1940’s. The Eagles dominated the NFL in the late 1940’s, winning the league championship in 1948 and 1949. The Eagles also won the NFL championship in 1960.
After the 1960 championship, the Eagles did not make the playoffs again until 1978. The team played in Super Bowl XV (played in 1981) and Super Bowl XXXIX (played in 2005), but lost both games. In 2018, Philadelphia won its first Super Bowl title when the team defeated the New England Patriots by a score of 41-33 in Super Bowl LII. In 2023, the Eagles advanced to Super Bowl LVII, but lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Philadelphia Eagles legends have included center and linebacker Chuck Bednarik (1949-1962), wide receiver Harold Carmichael (1971-1983), quarterback Randall Cunningham (1985-1995), safety Brian Dawkins (1996-2008), quarterback Ron Jaworski (1977-1986), quarterback Donovan McNabb (1999-2009), halfback Steve Van Buren (1944-1951), and defensive end Reggie White (1985-1992). Recent stars have included defensive tackle Fletcher Cox, quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Carson Wentz, center Jason Kelce, and offensive tackle Jason Peters.
