Lopez, Jennifer (1970-…), is a popular American singer and actress. In addition to her singing and acting, she became known for her exciting and lively dancing in her music videos. She was a judge on the singing competition television show “American Idol” in 2011 and 2012, and again from 2014 to 2016.
Lopez first won recognition for her performances in the films Selena (1997) and Out of Sight (1998). Her other movies include The Cell (2000), The Wedding Planner (2001), Maid in Manhattan (2002), Jersey Girl and Shall We Dance? (both 2004), Monster-in-Law (2005), The Back-up Plan (2010), What to Expect When You’re Expecting (2012), Parker (2013), Lila & Eve (2015), Hustlers (2019), and Marry Me (2022). She also provided the voice of the character Shira, a saber-toothed tiger, in the animated feature film Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), as well as the voice of Lucy, the mother of a teenage girl, in the animated feature Home (2015).
Lopez launched her recording career in 1999 with the release of the album On the 6. It included the hit singles “Waiting for Tonight” and “If You Had My Love,” which reached number one on both the rhythm and blues and pop charts. Lopez released a second album, J.Lo, in 2001. The album’s title refers to her nickname. The album featured the hit single “Love Don’t Cost a Thing.” Lopez’s other studio albums include This Is Me…Then (2002), Rebirth (2005), Brave and the Spanish album Como Ama una Mujer (both 2007), Love? (2011), and A.K.A. (2014).
Lopez was born on July 24, 1970, to Puerto Rican parents in the Bronx, a section of New York City. Her first show-business break came in 1990. That year, she was hired as a dancer on the television show “In Living Color.” Lopez also appeared in the television series “Second Chances” (1993-1994), “Hotel Malibu,” (1994), “South Central” (1994), and “Shades of Blue” (2016-2018). She made her first major motion-picture appearance in 1995 in My Family/Mi Familia. She was married to the American singer Marc Anthony from 2004 to 2012. In 2022, she married the American motion-picture actor, screenwriter, and director Ben Affleck.
