Memphis Grizzlies are a professional basketball team that plays in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The team competes in the Southwest Division of the Western Conference. The Grizzlies play their games at the FedEx Forum in Memphis. The team entered the NBA as the Vancouver Grizzlies in 1995-1996. The Grizzlies moved to Memphis for the 2001-2002 season.
The Grizzlies made the playoffs for the first time during the 2003-2004 season. They were led by coach Hubie Brown and forward Pau Gasol. Memphis made the playoffs again the next two seasons. Beginning in the 2010-2011 season, Memphis made the playoffs for seven straight years. During the 2010’s, the team was led by center Marc Gasol—Pau’s brother—and guard Mike Conley.
The team became a Western Conference contender again in the 2020’s. Guard Ja Morant won the NBA Rookie of the Year award for his play during the 2019-2020 season. Forward Jaren Jackson was named Defensive Player of the Year for the 2022-2023 season.
