DiCaprio, Leonardo (1974-…), is an American motion-picture star noted for his versatility as an actor. DiCaprio won the Academy Award as best actor for his performance in The Revenant (2015). He played the part of an injured and abandoned frontiersman on a fur trading expedition in the 1820′s.
Leonardo Wilhelm DiCaprio was born on Nov. 11, 1974, in Los Angeles, California. He began acting in television commercials and educational films at the age of 14. He also appeared in the TV series “Parenthood” and “Growing Pains” in the early 1990’s. DiCaprio made his movie debut in the horror film Critters 3 (1991). He gained attention in the role of a boy with an intellectual disability in What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993). DiCaprio gained superstar status as the romantic leading man in Titanic (1997), one of the biggest box-office hits in movie history.
DiCaprio’s other films of the 1990’s include This Boy’s Life (1993); The Basketball Diaries, The Quick and the Dead, and Total Eclipse (all 1995); Romeo + Juliet and Marvin’s Room (both 1996); and The Man in the Iron Mask and Celebrity (both 1998).
