Eleanor married Edward, the son of King Henry III of England, in late 1254. Eleanor frequently traveled with her husband. From 1270 to 1272, she went with Edward on a crusade to the Holy Land.

Eleanor gave birth to at least 14 children, though only 5 daughters and 1 son survived beyond childhood. Eleanor is best known today for the series of 12 crosses that marked the stages of her funeral procession after her death on Nov. 28, 1290 (see Eleanor Crosses).
