Burne-Jones, Sir Edward (1833-1898), was a British painter whose precisely executed Romantic style made him one of the foremost artists of his day. Many of his works portray Greek myths and the legends of King Arthur. He was a member of the art movement called the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Burne-Jones was born on Aug. 28, 1833, in Birmingham, England. He studied to become a minister but gave up a church career to become a painter. He also designed stained glass and tapestries and illustrated books. He died on June 17, 1898.
