Yahoo! Inc. is a provider of online products and services for internet users. It is part of the telecommunications company Verizon. One of Yahoo!’s most widely used services is its search engine, which helps users locate websites and information on the internet. Yahoo! also offers an email service. Other Yahoo! products provide news, sports, financial information, and entertainment content; games; shopping and auction opportunities; and services for small businesses. Users of Yahoo! are able to organize their favorite Yahoo! features into personalized web pages for convenient use. Yahoo! also offers a variety of online advertising options for businesses.

Two Americans, David Filo and Taiwanese-born Jerry Yang, started the guide that would become Yahoo! in 1994, while they were Ph.D. students in electrical engineering at Stanford University. The site was originally titled Jerry and David’s Guide to the World Wide Web. Yahoo! was incorporated in 1995. Yahoo! became a publicly owned company in 1996. In June, 2017, Yahoo! sold its core internet business to Verizon. The company that remained after this sale was named Altaba. Altaba is an investment company.
