Buffalo Sabres are a professional hockey team that plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) . Buffalo competes in the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference. The Sabres play in the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York.
Buffalo entered the NHL as an expansion team for the 1970-1971 season. The Sabres have made the Stanley Cup finals twice, losing to the Philadelphia Flyers in 1975 and to the Dallas Stars in 1999. Buffalo set a team record with 53 victories in the 2006-2007 season, led by center Daniel Briere and winger Thomas Vanek. However, the Sabres lost to the Ottawa Senators in the playoffs. A number of NHL stars have played for the Sabres, including left winger Rick Martin, right winger Alexander Mogilny, goalies Dominik Hasek and Ryan Miller, and Hall of Fame centers Pat LaFontaine and Gilbert Perreault.
