Vancouver Canucks

Vancouver Canucks are a professional hockey team that plays in the National Hockey League (NHL) . The team competes in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference. The Canucks play in Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Major league hockey in Vancouver began in 1912, when the Vancouver Millionaires entered the Pacific Coast Hockey Association. The Millionaires won the Stanley Cup in 1915. The team disbanded in 1926, ending major league hockey in the city until the arrival of the Canucks.

The Canucks entered the NHL for the 1970-1971 season. The team had a losing record its first four seasons but won its division in 1974-1975. The Canucks reached the Stanley Cup finals in 1982, losing to the New York Islanders . Stars of that team included center Ivan Boldirev, right winger Stan Smyl, left winger Tiger Williams, and goalie Richard Brodeur. The team reached the Stanley Cup finals again in 1994, losing to the New York Rangers . The team was led by center Trevor Linden, right winger Pavel Bure, and goalie Kirk McLean.

The Canucks did not make the playoffs from 1997 to 2000, but then became one of the dominant teams in the Western Conference. In 2011, Vancouver again reached the Stanley Cup finals, losing to the Boston Bruins . Recent stars have included center Trevor Linden, defensemen Alexander Edler and Mattias Ohlund, left winger Markus Näslund, goalie Roberto Luongo, and twin brothers Daniel Sedin (left wing) and Henrik Sedin (center).
