Minogue, Kylie << mih NOHG, KY lee >> (1968-…), is an Australian pop singer and actress. She is known for her flashy live performances and for her catchy songs with strong dance beats. She has won a number of awards for her music, including Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) and Grammy awards.
Kylie Ann Minogue was born on May 28, 1968, in Melbourne, Australia. She began acting at age 11 on the Australian television drama “Skyways.” She appeared on a number of other Australian TV series before being cast in a lead role on the family drama “The Henderson Kids” in 1985. Minogue gained fame for her portrayal of Charlene, a car mechanic, on the drama “Neighbours” from 1986 to 1988. In 2014, she appeared as a coach on the singing-competition television shows “The Voice UK” and “The Voice Australia.”
In 1987, Minogue recorded a remake of the 1962 hit song “The Loco-Motion” by the American singer Little Eva. Minogue’s remake, titled “Locomotion,” became a hit in Australia. In 1988, a dance version of the song was rerecorded and released worldwide as “The Loco-Motion.” It became a hit in Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The song was included on Minogue’s first album, Kylie (1988). The hit singles “I Should Be So Lucky,” “Got to Be Certain,” and “Je Ne Sais Pas Pourquoi” (a French phrase meaning ”I do not know why”) also came from this album. In 2023, Minogue released the single “Padam Padam.” It became a hit in Australia and the United Kingdom.
Minogue’s 2001 album Fever included the dance single “Can’t Get You Out of My Head.” The song became her biggest hit. Her other albums include Enjoy Yourself (1989), Rhythm of Love (1990), Let’s Get to It (1991), Kylie Minogue (1994), Light Years (2000), Body Language (2003), X (2007), Golden (2018), Disco (2020), and Tension (2023).
Minogue made her motion-picture debut in the romantic drama The Delinquents (1989). Her other films include Street Fighter (1994), Bio-Dome (1995), Hayride To Hell (1995), Sample People (2000), and Moulin Rouge! (2001). Her sister, Dannii Minogue, is also an actress and pop singer.
In 2008, Kylie Minogue was named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for her services to music. She was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2011. In 2019, Minogue was made an Officer of the Order of Australia for her services to the performing arts. The Order of Australia is Australia’s highest award for service to the country or to humanity.
