Norwegian buhund, << BOO huhnd, >> is an energetic working dog used by the Vikings at least as early as 900 A.D. It was bred as a herding and guard dog. It also may serve as a police dog or as a service animal trained to do work for an individual with a disability.
The Norwegian buhund ranges from about 16 to 19 inches (40 to 48 centimeters) tall at the shoulder. Adults weigh from 26 to 40 pounds (12 to 18 kilograms). The dog’s thick coat is pale cream to bright orange in color. Some Norwegian buhunds are black.
