Boozman, John (1950-…), became a United States senator in 2011. Boozman, a Republican, represents Arkansas. Prior to his election to the Senate, Boozman had served in the U.S. House of Representatives since 2001.
John Boozman was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, on Dec. 10, 1950. He was raised in Fort Smith, Arkansas. From 1969 to 1973, Boozman attended the University of Arkansas. While there, he played football and completed coursework to prepare for optometry school. He graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in 1977. That year, he helped found the Boozman Clinic (later renamed the Boozman-Hof Regional Eye Clinic) in Rogers, Arkansas.
Boozman worked as an optometrist until he won a special election to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2001. He was reelected in 2002, 2004, 2006, and 2008. As a congressman, Boozman focused on such issues as water resources management, veterans affairs, and fighting the illegal drug trade. In November 2010, he won election to the U.S. Senate. He was reelected in 2016 and 2022.
