Tseng, Yani << zehng, YAH nee >> (1989-…), is a successful Taiwanese-born golfer. In 2011, Tseng won her fifth major tournament. She thus became at the age of 22 the youngest professional golfer, male or female, to win five majors. The women’s majors consist of the Chevron Championship (formerly called the ANA Inspiration and, before that, the Kraft Nabisco Championship), the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship (formerly called the Ladies Professional Golf Association [LPGA] Championship), the United States Women’s Open, the Women’s British Open, and the Evian Championship. Tseng won the LPGA Championship in 2008 and 2011, the Kraft Nabisco Championship in 2010, and the Women’s British Open in 2010 and 2011.
Tseng was born in Taiwan on Jan. 23, 1989. She began playing golf at the age of 6. She was the top-ranked women’s amateur in Taiwan from 2004 to 2006. Tseng turned professional in 2007, joining the Ladies Asian Golf Tour. She joined the LPGA tour in 2008 and at the age of 19 became the youngest player to win the LPGA Championship tournament. Tseng was named Rookie of the Year on the LPGA tour in 2008 and Player of the Year in 2010. She reached the number-one ranking in the world in 2011.
