Gomez, Selena (1992-…), is a popular American actress and singer. She became well known for playing the teenage wizard Alex Russo on “Wizards of Waverly Place” (2007-2012), a television series on the Disney Channel. Her acting career later developed to include motion pictures and TV programs for adults. Gomez also has released a number of group and solo music albums.
Selena Marie Gomez was born on July 22, 1992, in Grand Prairie, Texas. She began acting as a child. Gomez’s first professional acting role was on the children’s TV program “Barney & Friends” when she was 7 years old. From 2007 to 2008, Gomez appeared on several episodes of the popular TV program “Hannah Montana” on the Disney Channel. In 2021, Gomez began starring on the TV series “Only Murders in the Building.”
Gomez’s early films include Another Cinderella Story (2008); Princess Protection Program (2009); and Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (2009). In 2010, Gomez appeared in the film Ramona and Beezus (2010), based on a series of children’s books by American writer Beverly Cleary. Gomez’s later movies include Monte Carlo (2011), Spring Breakers (2012), Getaway (2013), Rudderless (2014), The Fundamentals of Caring (2016), and A Rainy Day in New York (2019). Gomez also voiced characters in several animated films. Such films include Horton Hears a Who! (2008), based on a book by American writer Dr. Seuss; Hotel Transylvania (2012) and several sequels; and Dolittle (2020).
Gomez is also a singer. She sang the theme song for “Wizards of Waverly Place” and recorded several songs for the program’s sound track. Gomez also sang on the sound track of Another Cinderella Story. By 2009, Gomez had formed the popular-music group Selena Gomez & the Scene. The group released the hit albums Kiss & Tell (2009), A Year Without Rain (2010), and When the Sun Goes Down (2011). Its hit singles included “Naturally” (2009), “Who Says” (2011), and “Love You Like a Love Song” (2011). Gomez released her first solo album, Stars Dance, in 2013. Her later albums include Revival (2015) and Rare (2020).
