Colbert, << kohl BEHR, >> Stephen (1964-…), is a popular American comedian, writer, and television personality. He is known for his satiric approach to political and world events. In 2015, Colbert became the host of the late-night variety program “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” succeeding David Letterman, the host of “The Late Show with David Letterman.” Colbert hosted the late-night cable television program “The Colbert Report” from 2005 to 2014. That show was a parody (humorous imitation) of a serious news broadcast. On the program, Colbert played a self-important conservative talk show host. Colbert won a number of Emmy Awards for his work on “The Colbert Report.”
Stephen Tyrone Colbert was born on May 13, 1964, in Washington, D.C. He grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. After graduating with a degree in theater from Northwestern University in 1986, he joined the famous Second City comedy group in Chicago. Colbert moved to New York City in the 1990’s and wrote for several TV comedy programs. In 1995, he helped develop and co-starred in the comedy TV show “Exit 57.” The show ended in 1996. In 1997, Colbert joined the news parody show “The Daily Show,” where Colbert developed his right-wing character.
Colbert wrote the satirical best-selling books I Am America (And So Can You!) (2007) and America Again: Re-becoming the Greatness We Never Weren’t (2012), and I Am a Pole (And So Can You!) (2012).
