Park, Inbee (1988-…), a South Korean golfer, won three consecutive major championships in 2013. Park won the Kraft Nabisco Championship (now called the Chevron Championship), the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Championship, and the United States Women’s Open. She thus joined American golfer Babe Didrikson Zaharias as the only women to win the first three majors in a calendar year.
There are five majors in women’s golf. The other two are the Women’s British Open and the Evian Championship. Together, the majors make up the most prestigious tournaments in women’s golf. Park had previously won the U.S. Women’s Open in 2008. At the age of 19, she was the youngest player to win that tournament. Park won the LPGA Championship (now called the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship) again in 2014 and 2015. Park also won the Women’s British Open in 2015. In 2016, Park won the gold medal in women’s golf at the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Park was born in Seoul, South Korea, on July 12, 1988. She began playing golf at the age of 10 and moved to the United States two years later to prepare for a career as a professional golfer. As an amateur, Park won nine tournaments while competing on the American Junior Golf Association tour. Park turned professional in 2006. She has also competed on the LPGA Tour of Japan.
