Ferrell, Will

Ferrell, Will (1968-…), is a popular American comedian, actor, and writer. He gained fame as a cast member of the late-night television comedy variety show “Saturday Night Live,” often called SNL, from 1995 to 2002. Ferrell became known for his impersonations of famous people on SNL and for his physical comedy and notable characters in motion pictures .

John William Ferrell was born in Irvine, California, on July 16, 1968. He graduated from the University of Southern California in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in sports journalism. In 1991, he joined the Los Angeles improvisation comedy group the Groundlings. He became a member of the main company in 1995. Beginning in 1995, Ferrell appeared in small roles in television comedies. He also provided his voice for a number of animated TV series.

Ferrell’s first credited film role was in the comedy Men Seeking Women (1997). He gained popularity in the comedies Old School and Elf (both 2003). Ferrell co-wrote Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004) and its sequel, Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues (2013), in which he starred as an incompetent and egotistical TV news anchor in the 1970’s and in 1980, respectively. He also co-wrote Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006), in which he portrayed a dim-witted NASCAR driver.

Ferrell’s other films include Melinda and Melinda (2004), Kicking and Screaming (2005), Stranger Than Fiction (2006), Blades of Glory (2007), Semi-Pro and Step Brothers (both 2008), The Other Guys (2010), Daddy’s Home and Get Hard (both 2015), and Zoolander 2 (2016). He has also provided his voice for a number of animated motion pictures.
