Agnez Mo

Agnez Mo (1986-…) is an Indonesian -born singer and actress of Chinese ancestry. She has won many awards, including a number of Anugerah Musik Indonesia (AMI) awards. The AMI awards, presented annually, are the most prestigious music awards in Indonesia. From 2010 to 2012, she was a judge on the singing competition television show “Indonesian Idol.” See American Idol.

Agnes Monica Muljota was born on July 1, 1986, in Jakarta, the capital of the Southeast Asian country of Indonesia. She began her career as a singer at the age of 6. Her stage name at that time was Agnes Monica. She recorded three children’s albums and became a host of several children’s television programs in Indonesia. Agnes Monica began acting in 1999. As a teenager, she starred on a number of Indonesian soap operas.

Agnes Monica’s first studio album as an adult was .. and the story goes….., released in 2003. It was an immediate hit in Indonesia. The album included the singles “Jera,” “Bilang Saja,” and “Cinta Mati,” a duet with the Indonesian singer and musician Ahmad Dhani. Agnes Monica’s second studio album, Whaddup A.. ‘?!, was released in 2005. It featured the hit singles “Bukan Milikmu Lagi,” “Tanpa Kekasihku,” “Tak Ada Logika,” and the duet “I’ll Light a Candle,” written by and featuring the American singer-songwriter Keith Martin. Agnes Monica’s third studio album, Sacredly Agnezious, was released in 2009. It featured the single “Matahariku,” her best-selling single up to that time. A greatest hits album, Agnes Is My Name, was released in 2011.

By the time her fourth studio album, Agnez Mo, was released in 2013, she had begun using the stage name Agnez Mo. It was her first English-language studio album and included the hit song “Walk.” Released the same year, her first international single, “Coke Bottle,” featured the American rap artists Timbaland and T. I. It became a radio hit in many Asian countries. A music video for the song also became popular on the Internet.
