Chevron Championship

Chevron Championship is the first of the five major annual tournaments in women’s golf. The tournament was long held—under several different names—in late March or early April at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California. Since 2023, it has been held in the Houston area. The other women’s majors are the KPMG Women’s PGA (Professional Golfers’ Association) Championship; the United States Women’s Open; the Women’s British Open; and the Evian Championship.

American singer and TV personality Dinah Shore helped originate the tournament. It was called the Colgate-Dinah Shore Winners Circle when it debuted in 1972. For her role in founding the event, Shore was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1994. The event was called the Kraft Nabisco Championship from 2002 to 2014 and the ANA Inspiration from 2015 to 2022. The Chevron Corporation, a large petroleum company, began sponsoring the tournament in 2022. The tournament became one of the major championships of women’s golf in 1983.
