Cape York is a mountainous, ice-covered point of land that extends into Baffin Bay. The cape is on the northwest coast of Greenland at 76° north latitude, well north of the Arctic Circle. Admiral Robert E. Peary used it as a base for many of his explorations around the North Pole. Peary’s party discovered huge meteorites there, the largest weighing about 34 tons (31 metric tons).
