Spieth, Jordan (1993-…), an American professional golfer, won the 2015 Masters and U.S. Open and the 2017 British Open tournaments. The tournaments are three of the four “majors” of men’s golf . The other is the U.S. PGA Championship . Spieth’s score of 270 in the Masters tied the 72-hole record set by Tiger Woods in 1997. Spieth became the youngest player to win the Masters and the U.S. Open and only the sixth player to win both tournaments the same year.
Jordan Alexander Spieth was born on July 27, 1993, in Dallas, Texas. He won the United States Junior Amateur championship in 2009 and 2011. He finished second in the 2008 and 2009 Junior PGA Championship, and the American Junior Golf Association named him the Rolex Junior Player of the Year in 2009. Spieth attended the University of Texas in 2011 and part of 2012. As a freshman, he helped his team win the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) golf championship.
Spieth entered the U.S. Open in 2012 as an amateur and finished in a tie for 21st place. He shot the lowest score of any amateur in the tournament. In 2012, halfway through his sophomore year at Texas, he left the university to play professional golf. Spieth won the 2013 John Deere Classic at the age of 19, the first time in 82 years that a teenager had won a PGA tour event. Spieth ended the 2015 season by winning the FedEx Cup. To win the cup, players compete in a series of three tournaments leading to a championship tournament. The winner of the final tournament earns a bonus prize.
Spieth also has played on the U.S. Ryder Cup team that faced the European team in 2014, 2016, 2018, and 2021. The Ryder Cup is a competition between U.S. and European golfers that is held every two years. The 2020 Ryder Cup competition was played in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
