Zendaya (1996-…) is an American actress, singer, and dancer. She first gained fame acting on television programs on the Disney Channel, and later pursued a career in music and fashion.
Zendaya Maree Stoermer Coleman was born on Sept. 1, 1996, in Oakland, California. As a child, she began dancing with Future Shock, a dance program providing youths with training and performing experience in urban dance forms. She also worked as a clothing model, and was a backup dancer in a Sears music-video commercial featuring the American actress and singer Selena Gomez.
From 2010 to 2013, Zendaya acted on the television series “Shake it Up” on the Disney Channel. The series was about two teenagers who dreamed of becoming professional dancers. From 2015 to 2018, Zendaya starred in and produced the TV comedy series “K.C. Undercover.” In 2019, she began starring on the television drama series “Euphoria.” She has won several Emmy and Golden Globe awards for her acting in the series.
Zendaya’s first motion-picture appearance was in a starring role in the Disney Channel TV movie Frenemies (2012). She made her first theatrical motion-picture appearance in a supporting role in the superhero movie Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017). Zendaya also acted, sang, and performed trapeze stunts in the movie musical The Greatest Showman (2017). She sang and provided the voice of Meechee, a Yeti, in the animated movie Smallfoot (2018).
Zendaya also is a successful recording artist. Her first popular-music album, Zendaya, was released in 2013. Zendaya also sang on The Greatest Showman soundtrack (2017).
Zendaya co-wrote the advice book Between U and Me: How to Rock Your Tween Years with Style and Confidence (2013) with Sheryl Berk. In 2016, she launched her own clothing brand, Daya by Zendaya.
