Grande << GRAHN day >>, Ariana (1993-…), is a popular American actress and singer. She has appeared on Broadway and television, and released a number of hit music albums and songs. Grande also has co-written some of her songs. In 2019, Grande won a Grammy Award for best pop vocal album for Sweetener. In 2021, she won a Grammy for best pop duo with the American singer Lady Gaga for “Rain on Me.” Grande has also won several American Music Awards and MTV Video Music Awards. In 2021, Grande was a coach on the singing-competition television show “The Voice.”
Ariana Grande-Butera was born on June 26, 1993, in Boca Raton, Florida. She later dropped her father’s surname (Butera). As a child, Grande performed in local musical-theater productions. In 2008, at the age of 15, she won a role in the Broadway play 13, about a young woman growing up in New York City. Grande won a National Youth Theatre Association Award for her performance in the play. From 2010 to 2013, Grande played the role of Cat Valentine on the popular Nickelodeon TV program “Victorious.” She also sang on soundtracks produced for the program, about a group of teens at a performing-arts high school. Grande later appeared as Cat Valentine on the spinoff series “Sam & Cat,” which aired in 2013-2014. She also has appeared in comic sketches on the popular late-night program “Saturday Night Live.”
Grande’s popular music career took off in 2013 with the release of the hit singles “Baby I” and “The Way” and her first album, Yours Truly. Her other albums are My Everything (2014); Dangerous Woman (2016); Thank U, Next (2019); and Positions (2020). All of her albums except Dangerous Woman reached number one on Billboard magazine’s “Billboard 200” music chart. In 2021, Grande became the artist with the most songs to debut at number one on Billboard magazine’s “Hot 100” music chart, with five songs. The songs are “Thank U, Next” (2018); “7 Rings” (2019); and “Stuck with U” (featuring the Canadian singer Justin Bieber), “Rain on Me,” and “Positions” (all 2020). Other hit songs by Grande include “Right There” (2013), “Bang Bang” and “Problem” (both 2014), and “Dangerous Woman” (2016). Grande has also collaborated on a number of songs with such artists as the Australian rapper Iggy Azalea, the American rapper Lil Wayne, the Trinidadian-born American rapper Nicki Minaj, and the Lebanese-born British singer Mika.
In May 2017 in Manchester, England, a concert by Grande was the target of a terrorist attack. Grande received worldwide praise when she organized a benefit concert several days later for the more than 100 people injured in the attack and for the families of the 22 people who were killed.
