Portland Timbers are a professional soccer team in the United States. Soccer is called football in much of the world. The Timbers compete in the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS), the top soccer league in the United States and Canada. The team plays its home games at Providence Park in Portland, Oregon.
The Portland Timbers joined MLS in 2011. The Timbers made the playoffs for the first time in 2013. In 2015, Portland defeated the Columbus Crew SC to win their first MLS Cup. Portland returned to the MLS Cup final in 2018 and 2021, but lost both times.
Portland has qualified three times for the CONCACAF Champions League. The Portland Timbers franchise dates back to 1975, when the team joined the North American Soccer League. The team folded after the 1982 season.
