Kane, Patrick (1988-…), is a high-scoring American hockey player in the National Hockey League (NHL). Kane plays right wing. From 2007 to 2023, he played for the Chicago Blackhawks. Kane helped the Blackhawks win the Stanley Cup in 2010, 2013, and 2015. He won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the 2013 playoffs. Kane won the Hart Memorial Trophy as the league’s Most Valuable Player for the 2015-2016 season. Kane also received the Ted Lindsay Award for the most outstanding player as voted by NHL players. During that season, Kane scored a career high 46 goals and had 60 assists, earning him the Art Ross Trophy as the NHL’s leading scorer. He was the first player born and raised in the United States to win the Hart Memorial and Art Ross trophies.
Kane was born on Nov. 19, 1988, in Buffalo, New York. He began playing competitive hockey at the age of 7 and moved to Detroit at the age of 14 to join a league with more advanced players. The Blackhawks chose Kane as the first player selected in the 2007 NHL draft. He received the Calder Memorial Trophy as the NHL’s best rookie player of the 2007-2008 season. Kane played on the U.S. hockey team that won the silver medal at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, Canada. He also played on the U.S. team that failed to win a medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. In 2023, the Blackhawks traded Kane to the New York Rangers. Later in 2023, Kane signed with the Detroit Red Wings.
