Spratt, R. A. (1975?-…), is a British-born Australian children’s book author. She is best known for the “Nanny Piggins” and “Friday Barnes Mysteries” series. The “Nanny Piggins” series began with Spratt’s first book, The Adventures of Nanny Piggins, which was published in Australia in 2009 and in the United States in 2010. The humorous series tells the story of a flying pig—that is, a pig with a circus act of getting shot out of a cannon—who runs away from the circus and finds a job as a nanny for three motherless children. The “Friday Barnes Mysteries” series began in 2014 with Friday Barnes, Girl Detective. It follows the adventures of an 11-year-old girl who solves mysteries. In 2018, the first book in Spratt’s “Peski Kids” series about mystery-solving siblings, The Peski Kids: The Mystery of the Squashed Cockroach, was published.
Rachel Spratt was born in Essex, England. She moved with her family to Sydney, Australia, when she was 2 years old. Spratt earned a B.A. degree in communications (media production) from Charles Sturt University. She began her career writing political satire. Spratt also performed as a stand-up comedian from 1998 to 2002 and wrote sketch comedy. She has written for children’s television and for animation.
