Clarke, Darren

Clarke, Darren (1968-…), is a professional golfer from Northern Ireland . In 2011, Clarke won the British Open Championship, one of professional golf’s four major tournaments for men. The other three majors are the Masters, the U.S. Open, and the PGA Championship. Clarke also won the World Golf Championship in 2000 and 2003. In 2012, Clarke was appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his services to golf.

Darren Christopher Clarke was born on Aug. 14, 1968, in Dungannon in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. He won a number of amateur championships as a young man. He turned professional in 1990. Clarke has played on the United States, European, and Japanese tours. He was a member of five consecutive European Ryder Cup teams from 1997 to 2006. The Ryder Cup is a men’s golf competition between teams from Europe and the United States that is usually held every two years. Clarke was the European team captain in 2016.
